Baseball Gets First Win in Game 2 of Doubleheader

BETHANY, Ok. - Randall Baseball picked up their first win of the season as they traveled to Southwestern Christian on Monday for a pair of games. Despite dropping the first game 11-0, the Saints bounced back in game two of the doubleheader, winning 1-0 for the first time this season.

Game 1 - The first game followed a familiar track for the Saints. Some shaky fielding in the first inning allowed the Eagles to grab an early 4-0 lead. Randall was held to 2 hits on the game by a combination of five Eagles pitchers. Senior Catcher JW Moore and Junior Weston Ward provided the only two hits of the game for the Saints. Junior Devan Pettyjohn took the loss on the mound for Randall.

Game 2 - Randall dominated on the mound in game two, only allowing 2 hits to the Eagles, thanks to 5 shutout innings from Freshman starter Blake Tucker, and two no-hit innings of relief from Freshman Mason Baur. The Saints only collected 3 hits, and didn't walk once, but took advantage of the few baserunners they did have to get the only run of the game across in the third inning. Senior Ryan Hickerson bunted to lead off the third inning. It was bobbled by the pitcher, and his throw to first was wild, allowing Hickerson to advance to second. After a failed sacrifice bunt, Junior Grey Matejka singled up the middle, knocking in Hickerson from second, and giving the Saints the only run they would need. Tucker got the win, and Baur finished the game with a two-inning save.

Up next for the Saints are four games at home on Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th against York and Panhandle.
