Baseball Goes 1-2 in Region Pool Play

MCPHERSON, Ks. - Randall took part in the NCCAA Central Region Tournament over the weekend, and despite having the lowest seed, had a solid showing to finish the season. Randall was placed in Pool A with the #1, #4, and #5 seeds. In their first game, the Saints defeated #5 seed Central Baptist 1-0 thanks to a complete game shutout from Freshman pitcher Mason Baur. Randall dropped a competitive game 2 to Central Christian 10-5. Game 3 was against the top seed in the region, and the Saints kept it close until Oklahoma Baptist pulled away late beating Randall 11-1.

Game 1 - Mason Baur was the story for the Saints in game 1 against Central Baptist, throwing a complete game, 4-hit shutout. Despite managing only 2 hits, and striking out 10 times, Randall managed to scrape across a run in the 5th inning. Junior Shortstop Weston Ward walked, and then was sacrificed over by Sophomore Alec Baugh. Christian Longan then doubled to right-center, scoring Ward and giving Baur the only run he would need.

Game 2 - A day after a dominant pitching performance, Freshman Mason Baur hit leadoff for the Saints, going 2-4 in a 10-5 loss to #4 seed Central Christian College. Randall struggled to find any offense early, and Central slowly built a lead, culminating with a 4 run top of the 6th inning to put the Saints down 10-0. Randall responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th, and then Senior relief pitcher Ryan Hickerson threw a perfect top of the 7th with 2 strikeouts. Randall managed to score two more in the bottom of the 7th, but couldn't complete the comeback falling 10-5.

Game 3 - Randall finished the tournament, and their season, facing off with the #1 seed in the region Oklahoma Baptist University. The Saints managed only one hit from Junior CF Grey Matejka, but through 3 innings the score was tied 1-1; with Randall's only run coming from a series of errors, and a walk. OBU had a 4-1 lead over the Saints heading into the 6th inning, and then the wheels came off for Randall. Oklahoma Baptist scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 6th, taking an 11-1 lead that would be the final score. Only 1 of the 11 OBU runs were earned thanks to 4 Randall errors, as defensive struggles doomed the Saints.
