Randall Women's Basketball Beats Region Rival 72-50 at Home

MOORE, Okla. - Randall Women's Basketball hosted Region rival Manhattan Christian on Monday, and put forth one of their better defensive efforts of the year in a commanding 72-50 win over the Thunder. Junior Guard Kourtney Jones (Earlsboro, OK/Shawnee HS) lead the Saints balanced offensive attack with 18 points, making 3 of her 4 3-point attempts. Jones was followed closely by Senior Kajaira Mays (Red Oak, TX/Red Oak HS) who had 16 of her own. However, it was defense that ruled the day for the Saints. Randall had 15 steals and 6 blocks en route to forcing 19 Thunder turnovers. Manhattan was only able to convert on 38.2% of their field goals, and the Saints held their opponents to a dismal 3-17 from the 3-point line.

1st Quarter - The offensive balance for the Saints began early, as 5 of the 6 players who played more than 1 minute in the first quarter scored. Mays and Jones lead the way with 6 points each. Randall forced 8 turnovers in the opening quarter, with 5 different players recording a steal. At the end of the quarter the Saints held a 20-11 lead thanks to a halfcourt shot by Mays at the buzzer.

2nd Quarter - Kourtney Jones took over in the second quarter, scoring 9 of the Saints 17 points, while getting to the free throw line 6 times. The Saints won the quarter 17-14, and took a 37-25 lead into halftime.

3rd Quarter - Manhattan came out in the second half looking to make it a game, going on a 5-0 run to start the quarter. The lead would get as small as 6 before Randall was able to extend it back into double digits. Still at the end of the quarter Manhattan had cut the lead to 50-41. Mays lead the Saints in scoring in the quarter with 6. Randall's defense wasn't as strong, giving up the most points of any quarter, and only forcing 1 turnover.

4th Quarter - Any hope the Thunder received from their strong 3rd quarter was crushed in the 4th, as the Saints only gave up 9 points, while scoring 22 of their own. Senior Guard Morgan Fletcher (Healdton, OK/Healdton HS) lead the way with 7 points, while Sophomore Madi Chalfant (Hinton, OK/Hinton HS) scored 6 going perfect from the field (2-2) and the FT line (2-2). Senior Tiffani Burns (Burns Flat, TX/Burns Flat - Dill City HS) contributed 3 assists and 6 of her game high 8 rebounds in the quarter as well. The Saints had 5 steals in the quarter as they gave nothing easy to Manhattan to close out the game.

Up next for the Saints is an exhibition vs. Newman on Wednesday, January 17. The next home game for Randall will be Thursday, January 18, against Rhema. That game will also be streamed online at rusaints.com.
