Zarate Holds Patriots Out Of The Pen In Game One

Despite seeing its four-run lead whittled down by the end, the Saints still held off Arlington Baptist for an 8-7 victory on Friday. Arlington Baptist tallied four runs in the failed comeback. Ryan Munoz, Deonte Marshall, and  Cody Burkhalter came through with RBIs to lead the rally.

The Saints grabbed an early lead. The Saints scored on a walk by Cache Garrett, a single by Mickey Sykes, a single by Ryan Stotts, and an error in the second inning.

The Saints pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning. In the second Garrett drew a walk, scoring one run, Sykes singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs, Stotts singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs for the Saints.

Arlington Baptist scored three runs in the third inning. The offensive firepower by Arlington Baptist was led by Munoz and Marshall, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Eli Zarate got the win for the Saints. The freshman went five and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out one.  Zachary Clarkson threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.  Clarkson recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Saints.

Cole Row took the loss for Arlington Baptist. Row went three innings, allowing eight runs on five hits and striking out two.

Jace Elliott started the game for the Saints. Elliott went one-third of an inning, allowing three runs on one hit

Louis Cottone led the Saints with two hits in three at bats.
